Landspítali Háskólasjúkrahús

Landspitali - University Hospital was established March 3rd 2000 with the merger of the Icelandic State University Hospital, Landspitali, and Sjukrahus Reykjavikur, also a state runned hospital, but was originally Borgarspitali, the Reykjavík City Hospital. Sjukrahus Reykjavikur had been formed by merging with Landakotsspitali, which was mainly a hospital for the elderly.

The main role of Landspitali - University hospital is threefold; service to patients, teaching and training of clinical staff, and scientific research. The hospital offers diverse clinical services in outpatient clinics, day patient units, inpatient wards, and clinical laboratories. The hospital’s support offices provide a range of services related to human resources, finance and economics, information technology, and operations.
